Mammolina to Host Workshops on Nonviolent Communication

Mammolina Children’s Home Montessori Kindergarten will be hosting a series of exciting community events during May and June.

Its new Casa dei Bambini (3-6 year old) co-director, Matthew Rich, will be facilitating some training sessions based upon the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) work of Marshall Rosenberg. In these workshops participants are able to connect deeply with their own set of values and learn concrete skills and principles for fostering heartfelt connections with oneself and others, uncovering the needs which underlie all of our choices and actions, and working collaboratively to find strategies that meet everyone’s needs.

Matthew has a particular interest in supporting parents, teachers, and others who work with children or in social change. Matthew comes from South Africa where he worked in the alternative education field in a range of contexts as a teacher, teacher trainer, writer, and consultant. He studied education through the Sustainability Institute, the Centre for Guided Montessori Studies, the Montessori Leadership Institute, and the Alternative Education Resource Organization. He also studied nonviolence with Dr. Marshall Rosenberg and others in Switzerland and is a graduate of the well-known Parent Peer Leadership Program and the North American NVC Leadership Program through Bay NVC in California. He has also taught NVC in Africa, Europe, and North America, and this summer he will be an assistant trainer in both the children’s and adult’s programs at the annual New York Residential Intensive.
