On May 14, more than 550 students of the Lycée Français de Shanghai (French School of Shanghai) participated in the 13th edition of the Race against Hunger event, which was aimed at educating students about the issues that surround global hunger.

race4hunger-sThis year was the second time the French School of Shanghai has supported this initiative promoted by Action against Hunger, a global humanitarian organization committed to ending world hunger. In 2009, 215,000 students from all over the world ran for the cause and more than 2.5 million Euros were collected for projects in Liberia, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. The long-term objective is inspiring and ambitious: raising awareness among youngsters so they can become powerful agents of change.

The concept behind this non-competitive race is simple: participants ask their friends and family to sponsor them for each lap they run during the Race. Pledges typically range from 5 to 100RMB, with students running between 5-10 laps each. All the funds raised help Action against Hunger run life-saving programs in order to provide communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger.

The amount raised by LFS students will be announced in June but in the meantime, the LFS wishes to thank all the runners for their dynamic participation and the sponsors (AGS Déménagement, Auchan, Boulangerie Daniel, Carrefour, Lacoste, Nestlé and Pâtisserie de France) for their donations.
