ivy-art-exhit-sOn May 14th, 2011, the Ivy Academy annual art exhibition was held at Suzhou Gardens in Donghu Lake Villas. This year’s exhibition added a hands-on science component, and therefore it has a new title – Art Exhibition and Science Event: Making Creative Connections.

As always, one framed painting per child was on display in the great hall at Suzhou Gardens. Constructions from each classroom that were created by children were also installed as they related to various themes the children had worked on over the past several months. There was a paper mache airplane created by children in our Nursery that was nestled in a tree, a movie projector and a dragon constructed from recycled materials by children in Pre/K 202. There were also giant stuffed sea creatures made by children in Pre/K 203 that were suspended from the ceiling.

Ivy Academy contracted with a Beijing-based company, Kexue Communications, which performs science shows and workshops for schools, parties and other functions. Tim O’Mahony and four of his colleagues installed five stations throughout the garden, each offering hands-on explorations that invited children to make creative connections between science and art.

Beautiful works of art, science fun, good food and sunshine all contributed to a great gathering of the Ivy Academy school community.
