isb-shane-1e589afe69cacFizz, pop, bang! These are the noises heard by Kindergarteners when the children were recently enriched by ISB’s own in-house high school scientist, Shane Watson. During their mini lessons on Thursdays, Scientist Shane shared with the children interactive aspects of science that heightened their curiosity.

At times, there were balloons being blown up, marshmallows exploding, and electricity making bells ring and lights go on. Clearly, everyone was enthralled by his innovative exploits with household materials. Classes were encouraged to ask questions, explore various materials, and have fun. These hands-on experiments allowed children to see that science happens every day and is all around us. The children recorded the events, after making guesses of what might happen, and entered these into their science journals.

As Kindergarten teacher Mr. Dan said, “My kids thought it was exciting and I learned something too!” Everyone in Kindergarten loved Shane’s visits and ISB is lucky to now have him visiting Grades 1 and 2 this month.
