tedx-logo-sOn November 14, the International School of Beijing (ISB) and the Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) collaboratively inaugurated a local version of the TED conference, a cutting-edge exchange for passionate learners. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design—three broad areas collectively shaping our future. The event was officially sanctioned by the TED organization. WAB and ISB were thrilled with the success of their local version of such a conference.

The 100+ audience heard New Oriental School founder Yu Minghong’s vision for the first private humanities university in China; Yang Jia’s courageous ascent to become the UN Vice-Chair for the Committee on the Rights of People with Disabilities; and art entrepreneur David Kay’s path to adult creativity paved with teaching wisdom and classroom incubation.

The twelve invited speakers were all active, compassionate, and lifelong learners. They are all Beijingers linked by a passion for what they do; yet the juxtaposition of their different perspectives and experiences created an eclectic montage. Many left TEDx that day with passions heightened and the spirit of learning raised to new levels.
