Grand Opening Ceremony for Shanghai Concord Bilingual School

0j7a1414The Opening Ceremony for Shanghai Concord Bilingual School was held on 16 September and began with a full Year 6 school choir singing the School Song, ‘Concord Will Inspire’.

Mr. Francis Ping, Shanghai Concord Chairman, reminisced on his time in Concord UK and explained why he felt it was so important to have a school based on the Concord UK model in Shanghai.

Dr. Iain Bride, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Concord College UK and Mr. Neil Hawkins, Principal of Concord College UK elaborated on the Concord College ethos and both stressed the importance of quality bilingual education in Shanghai.

Mr. Gao Yun, Party Secretary of Huangpu District gave a motivational address on behalf of Huangpu District and stressed the importance of a close collaboration between Shanghai Concord and the Huangpu District Educational authorities.

The school was declared officially open by Mr. John Edwards, British Consul-General, together with Mr. Gao Yun, Dr. Iain Bride and Mr. Francis Ping Fan when cutting the ribbon in the maroon and gold school colors.

Keynote speaker was Dr. Zhu Xiaoming, CEIBS (China Europe International Business School) Professor, who explained the importance of cultivating creative thinkers as the leaders of tomorrow.

Mrs. Gail C. Denham, Shanghai Concord’s very own Executive Principal, closed the Opening Ceremony, and she thanked all the VIP guests, staff members and parents, but above all the students for their faith and confidence in Shanghai Concord and for making Shanghai Concord such a wonderful place.

After the ceremony, Shanghai Concord students proudly showed the honored VIP guests and the parents the school facilities.
