FIS Students Attend World Scholar’s Cup in Beijing

Fourteen students of Fudan International School (FIS)travelled to Beijing this weekend to participate in the World Scholar’s Cup 2010 China Tournament March 19 to 21. The World Scholar’s Cup emphasizes theme-based learning, teamwork and global community-building. There were many subjects and activities to compete in, including an essay section, multiple choice test and debates. This is the first time FIS students have participated in such a program.fis-wsc-2010-s

The seniors did very well, winning 3 debates: the team of Antonio, Jonathan and Ollie won 2 of 2 rounds, while Hockey, Vivian and Christine won 1 out of 2 rounds. Although the juniors did not win any debates, they tried their hardest to gain their first real learning experience in debating. They were so eager to improve their skills. In the evening there was a Senior Debate Showcase with the highest scores of the day participating in one final round. Vivian , one of the FIS senior students earned a place in the Senior Debate Showcase, helping to bring a real victory to her team.

In the afternoon of the last day, the event went on by Scholar’s Bowl. Teams were questioned in Literature, History, Art, Psychology, Science and Economics. The day ended with an Awards and Closing Ceremony. Many schools from Shanghai, Henan, Beijing, and Hangzhou participated and recieved awards for the tournament, including several students from FIS: Yi Jia Yu, Kevin Wang, Max Hicks, Sissy Xing Yu Lu, Vivian Helen Wang, Ollie, Christine, Hockey, Vivian. All other students recieved special certificates of participation.
