On Wednesday 24th August, Beijing City International School (BCIS) hosted the BCIS Parents as Learners Workshop. This was the first meeting of a series of events designed to help parents who want to help their children cope with the typical challenges of living internationally.

The workshop was free and open to all parents, not just those of BCIS students, and featured a presentation by Kathryn Tonges, parenting educator and co-author of “Slurping soup and other confusions: real life stories and activities to help third culture kids during transition”. Kathryn presented effective and practical strategies that better enable parents to support their children and family.

It wasn’t just a one way monologue, with Kathryn encouraging audience participation and talking about issues that were raised by the attendees; it provided parents with the ability to share and talk about their problems, as well as meet new families and make new friends.

The event was a resounding success, with nearly everyone staying afterwards to talk more to each other about the workshop and forge new connections with new friends.
