Through the Farm to School program, students of Shanghai Singapore International School XuHui Campus are actively involved in the entire process of organic vegetable cultivation, from sowing to harvesting their fresh and healthy fruits of labor!

The school farm provides the context to enrich learning ‘beyond the classroom’. It is not only the best outdoor classroom for science, but for other subjects such as languages, the arts and mathematics. Experts from the Mahota Farm will be holding agricultural talks during the school assembly schedule to reinforce and enrich students’ learning.

Our very first harvest took place on Earth Day 2013. Grade 1 and Grade 2 students were invited to harvest the first batch of cherry radishes planted on their class plots on 12 March 2013. These products were washed, prepared and served at lunch later in the day, allowing the students to understand the intrinsic value of harvesting their hard work.

The administrators of SSIS hope to pioneer and develop an educational philosophy that aligns the Taisheng philosophy with its educational beliefs in the near future.
