dulwich-suzhou-air-improvementDulwich College Suzhou is delighted to announce a major programme during the summer to improve indoor air quality throughout all three schools and its Boarding House. In response to concerns over air pollution late last year, Dulwich was the first school in Suzhou to install PM2.5 air purifiers into all classrooms and offices in January. However, this was only the first step in improving the indoor air quality for students. This latest upgrade programme, which will be completed during the summer, include the addition of filtered fresh air systems in every classroom plus the gym, libraries, aquatics centre and dining halls.

“This will be another first for any school in Suzhou and speaking as a parent myself, I am delighted that Dulwich is investing in the fresh air and air purification systems necessary to provide an optimal environment for learning,” says Headmaster John Todd.

Dulwich has long considered the quality of school facilities and learning environment to be a critical enabler of effective student learning. After in-depth research and a review of competitive proposals submitted by industry leaders, PureLiving China was selected to lead the upgrade. PureLiving has an impressive track record of successful installations among international schools and demonstrated a deep understanding of the students’ needs.

The upgrade programme will comprise the following:

The Ducks Building (for Early Years students) will receive dedicated fresh air ventilation and filtration units, providing 100% coverage of all areas within the building to provide ventilation in line with ASHRAE (leading US industry body) standards and guarantee air quality building-wide better than the US EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) 24-hour standard for air quality.

The Junior School classrooms, library, dining hall, and staff areas will receive dedicated fresh air ventilation and filtration units that will provide ventilation in line with US ASHRAE standards and guarantee air quality building-wide better than the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) 24-hour standard for air quality.

In the Senior School building and Boarding House, all existing filters on the fresh air systems and air conditioning systems for the gym, swimming pool and theatre will be upgraded to accommodate ultra-high efficiency filters (hospital-grade) capable of capturing over 93% of particulates sized 1um and above.

Improvements will also be made to the ventilation supply in the Senior School building, increasing the ventilation rate and providing enhanced heating and cooling.

All work will be completed over the summer in time for the new school year starting in August.
