daystar-learning-conference-aug-19th“Courage to Change and Inspire,” that was the theme of the Daystar Academy and the Ivy School’s first joint Learning Conference, which took place on 19 August. Leading the stronghold of 700 staff and teachers was renowned educator and winner of the 2015 Asia Game Changer Award, Kiran Sethi. Everyone was inspired by her passionate speech about her award-winning program “Design for Change.”

The program has a very simple framework: “Feel”, “Imagine”, “Do”, and “Share.” By approaching everything with this very simple framework, it allows for anyone, from a child, to a parent, to a teacher, to identify a problem (“feel”), imagine what they can do about it (“imagine”), seek a solution (“do”), and then make it happen (“share”). With this approach, a person develops both passion and compassion, and the belief that they can make a difference.

Sethi spent three busy days with the Daystar and Ivy team, including conducting workshops, and helping teachers come up with concrete ideas and steps that they could do to inspire their students, and themselves.

She culminated her visit with a community event the morning of 22 August. Over 200 members of the public, parents and educators from various institutions (including Keystone Academy and International School of Beijing) came to Daystar Academy. Their goal was to discover how they could help every child become a “superhero” by helping cultivate an “I Can” mindset. Sethi also made everyone sit on the floor for her workshop/exercise, and helped people see the importance of communication and listening.

Everyone was touched and energized by the speaker’s passion and dedication. The key, now, is sustaining that passion.
