Creativity Abounds at 2nd BCIS PAL Workshop

On 22nd September, Beijing City International School held the second in its series of “BCIS Parents as Learners Workshops.” This event focused on creativity in the classroom, with host Richard Todd, the High School visual arts teacher, providing an engaging and fun session in the BCIS Atrium.

The well-attended workshop was free and open to all. Richard gave the audience insights into effective teaching methods he employs by conducting a series of activities designed to help with creative thinking. The idea behind this, he explained, was that creativity can help everyone become habitual learners.

The attendees were then taught a basic yet powerful artistic concept, the rule of thirds, and then given a task to design a poster (using an image from a small selection) for a photography exhibition using this newly learned skill to communicate a particular concept in the poster design. Richard then suggested that this exhibition actually take place, using images created by the BCIS community, who are now armed with a new artistic tool.

So, opening on 16th February 2012 between 3:45pm and 5pm, photography made by the BCIS community will be presented in the BCIS Atrium. The exhibition will be titled “Truth in the 21st Century.”
