dcs-hs-graduation-2015e589afe69cacMonday 25 May saw the culmination of secondary education for the 67 members of the Class of 2015 of Dulwich College Shanghai. The day was a busy one for the students and followed on from their Graduation Formal event that took place at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel on Saturday night. Students began their final day of school with a two-hour rehearsal for the graduation ceremony, and then they began their farewell ‘Graduation Parade’.

The Graduation Parade began at DUCKS, where wonderful banners containing best wishes were displayed by the youngest members of the school community. Students were further welcomed by Ms. Lowe and short speeches, and good luck messages were given by the Year 2 Ambassadors before a parade of the DUCKS playground. Next was a visit to Junior School where the entire school came out into the sunshine to cheer the graduates as they made their way around the Junior School quad. Finally, the parade made a circuitous route around the Senior School where students lined the corridors to applaud the graduating students.

After an afternoon of preparation for the ‘main event’, all prospective graduates made their way back to the college for the formal graduation ceremony. At 4:30pm in front of a packed theatre audience of proud parents, relatives, friends, and teachers the graduates took to the stage. Speeches were made on behalf of the cohort by the out-going Head Boy, Leo Song, and Head Girl, Serena Joseph, and by Ashley Van De Casteele who likened the departure of the Year 13s from DCS as akin to the splitting of Destiny’s Child! Formal and thoughtful messages of ‘commencement’ were provided by Headmaster, Mr. Charnock, and by the Headmistress of Senior School, Mrs. Taylor. Certificates were also presented.

Finally, to end the festivities the newest members of the International Old Alleynians network joined fellow students, parents, and staff for refreshments and those all-important pictures with ‘cap and gown’ on the Senior School lawn.

A wonderful day was had by all. Dulwich College Shanghai is incredibly proud of the ‘Class of 2015′ and offers best wishes for all of their future endeavors. Everyone strongly believes they will be wonderful representatives of the college and that they will adhere to Dulwich College’s motto of ‘Detur Pons Mundo’ wherever their path may take them.
