ycis-news-hongqiao-storytellingYew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS) held its annual Primary Chinese Storytelling Competition at Hongqiao Campus for over two days for Years 2-4 and 5-6.

This was the first year that the competition was open to students in Year 2, and all students were very eager to participate and demonstrate the language skills they have further developed in class.

Preliminary competitions were held in classes and by year groups to determine the competitors for the final round. In the end, 15 Primary student candidates entered the main competitions in the campus auditorium. In the Year 5-6 final round, eight candidates thoroughly entertained an auditorium full of parents, classmates, and teachers, as well as showcased their high-level of competency in the language at both non-native and native levels. In the Year 2-4 competition, the seven young competitors demonstrated great confidence as they walked onto the stage and impressively told animated and well-prepared stories in Chinese to the nearly 300 attendees.

All Primary and Secondary students at YCIS Shanghai take one hour of engaging Chinese language lessons each day where they develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
