bcis-cny-assemblyFor BCIS (Beijing City International School), establishing connections with the school’s Chinese roots is a very important part of the school’s philosophy and culture. To that end, the school actively works to embrace traditional Chinese festivals and activities, and work them into every level of the programme. With the coming of Chinese New Year, the Early Childhood Center, Elementary School and Secondary School sections all held their own special Chinese New Year Assembly, in which students participated in many performances that were steeped in Chinese history and culture.

Performances included Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Chinese drumming, dragon and lion dances, fan dancing, Chinese songs and cross talk, folk music performed on the erhu and guzheng, and much more. BCIS works hard to provide as many students as possible the opportunity to take part in all kinds of performances while they are at school. Besides the music, dancing and drama in the assemblies, students also took charge of hosting each assembly, with volunteers coming onstage to introduce their classmates who would be performing next, and also offer a little background information on certain aspects of Chinese culture.
