Beijing World Youth Academy (BWYA) is delighted to welcome two new senior staff members to the BWYA family, adding additional expertise and a wealth of experience across all three of the school’s campuses.

bwya-welcomes-new-staffEmma Emerich has joined as Vice Principal for BWYA’s IB school based in Wangjing. Emerich has spent the previous four years teaching in Zambia and has a career spanning 21 years in education. Originally from the UK, she has held several senior positions at international schools and is now looking forward to applying her skills and experience to her new role.

Emerich said: “I am delighted to be here in China, and at BWYA, and I’m looking forward to submersing myself in all the history, culture and geography that China has to offer. My new role at BWYA is just as exciting. I am really looking forward to working with such an international body of teachers and making a contribution to this rapidly growing learning community. I will also be working hard to ensure that all of our students can make the best of their abilities and meet their potential, as well as helping them recognize the roles they play in our community and the rights and responsibilities that they have themselves.”

Shannon Koga joins BWYA as Director of Instructional Practices. She will also take on the role of Principal at BWYA’s Primary School at its Laiguangying campus. She has 28 years of experience in education, predominantly in Japan, and most recently as Acting Head of School at Hokkaido International School’s Niseko Campus.

Koga said: “This is an exciting adventure for me and I am really enjoying the experience. This is my ninth year working with and supporting IPC teachers and I will be working closely with the team here to help them further develop their units and teaching skills. As Director of Instructional Practices I will be working across all three of BWYA’s campuses, expanding on what our teachers are already doing in order to find common practices that we can implement throughout the entire school and ensure student success.”

Wang Hong, Head of School at BWYA, added: “Last year was a milestone year for BWYA. We opened our new Primary School Campus and Performing Arts Centre, achieved our best ever academic results for a graduating class and then bid our graduates farewell as they went off to attend top universities all across the globe. As we go in to our 15th year, BWYA will continue to grow and pursue excellence in everything we do, that includes the quality of the teaching and support staff we recruit, and having Emma and Shannon on board is further evidence of our ambitions for the future and our commitment to our students and their futures. Welcome to the BWYA family.”
