bsb-pirate_shipThe British School of Beijing (BSB) has introduced brand new play equipment to for the whole of the primary school. A pirate ship resides in one of three new playground areas in the primary school.

All the new playgrounds are designed to be age appropriate for specific year groups and have been carefully designed and planned out by experienced educationalists. The playground for the youngest learners includes climbing equipment, swings, sand pits, water features and even hills for rolling down. The biggest playground for the younger learners boasts 6 pieces of new equipment, two astro turf football pitches, painting easels and wendy houses for imaginative role-play. The pirate ship is the biggest feature and provides opportunities to climb, balance, scale, slide, swing, role play and much more. All the equipment is made by Lappset and imported from Scandinavia.

Here, the play equipment is specifically designed for early childhood development and is intended for children to develop their body strength and challenge themselves. This has been very evident since the opening of the playgrounds and the young learners are very happy indeed!

Wednesday October 10 saw Year 3 transform into a crew of pirates at The British School of Beijing. To begin their new topic Year 3 were charged with launching the ‘The British Buccaneer’. All of Year 3 dressed as pirates and used pirate speech as part of their ‘WOW’ experience to launch their new topic. The children were introduced to a variety of activities throughout the day and whenever they were encountered in the corridors a huge ‘aaarrrggghhh’ would follow from all children. The children were the first to play on the new pirate ship and looked to be having a great time climbing rigging and casting off the anchor!
