During November 9th to 14th, the British School of Beijing (BSB) hosted the FOBISSEA Music Festival. Over 200 students from 14 international schools across Asia joined BSB in the event. They all worked hard over the course of the festival, culminating with a concert on the final night.

The concert repertoire consisted of Classical, Pop, Glee and Jazz spanning nearly four hundred years of music from the time of Bach to the present day. The performance of “Jerusalem” was incredibly powerful and the Glee-type arrangements of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” and Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” had everybody tapping their feet. Over 200 people, including some 50 parents who had flown in especially for the concert, were present for the performance. The whole audience rose to give a standing ovation at the end of the show. To say that the students excelled themselves is an understatement in this case.

Throughout the festival, the students worked incredibly hard and showed real talent. Some comments from students: “Unbelievable! I never thought that secondary students could perform such amazing, difficult pieces.” (Henry, Year 9); “Fantastic selection of pieces! Best conductors ever!” (Katherine, Year 10); “It was wonderful to work with people I’d never met before.” (Tornado, Year 9), “Singing till you’re hoarse, then singing some more! This festival was a fun test on our limits and we created some amazing music!” (May, Year 10), “The Festival was really great fun. I can’t wait to go to next year’s festival.” (Yena, Year 7).
