biss-puxi-maths-week-9Maths Week at The British International School Shanghai, Puxi provides a fantastic opportunity for children to engage in math activities, which they may not normally get a chance to experience in a normal lesson.

Over the course of the week, the whole school participated in different Maths activities designed to challenge their thinking and develop their Maths problem solving skills. These activities included: Learning about famous mathematicians and mathematical concepts, solving a pyrotechnic challenge, math challenges for children to beat their previous scores or to compete against the teachers, and a ‘Design a Maths Hat’ activity.

The Maths Week also provided interschool or interclass collaboration opportunities. Classes in Key Stage 2 were partnered with another class from another school to work together on solutions to a mathematical problem. Besides, BISS Puxi classes were partnered with one another so that they could teach each other a mathematical concept.

A special event was the students selling hundreds of baked goods across the school to raise fund for the Xiulong Migrant School in Qingpu District, and children using their one Yuan coins to estimate and measure during the course. In the end, the children managed to raise 17,403.19RMB for the migrant school.
