Beijing BISS International School (BISS) held its second annual Model United Nations Congress on April 28 and 29. The focus for learning was – How are decisions made that affect our world? This involved all students from Gr. 6-11 for many weeks prior to the event.

biss-mun-sMrs. Tania Belisle Leclerc, a member of the United Nations, opened the conference with first-hand insights into how this world organization is run. Mr. & Mrs. Chang, the CEOs of BISS, also addressed the audience via Video Conferencing from Singapore. BISS General Secretary Monique Brown challenged her peers to go MAD and go ‘Make a Difference’.

After the ceremony, students moved to their committee rooms where lobbying other delegates to support their resolutions began in earnest. In addition, the Yr. 6s were involved as security staff and pages to help maintain order and communication. Yr. 7s adopted the roles of newspaper editors, reporters and photographers to document the events.

An informal closing ceremony was held on April 29th to acknowledge the efforts of students and teachers in making this worthwhile learning experience a success. Special thanks were given to Mrs. Ginette Talbot for her initiative in coordinating this event. The student chairs and organizing committee are also to be congratulated on their efforts for organizing the whole event.
