On December 5, grade 8 students at Beijing City International School (BCIS) took their graffiti tags to the walls of the Landgent Mall near Shuang Jing Qiao. This group of talented teenagers turned the Mall into a fun place full of creativity and imagination.

The students have been studying the nature of art, particularly art that is found outside of the normal museum and gallery settings. Guided by their teacher Devin Allen, they have looked at a variety of different art making techniques including graffiti, posters, video and comics. Students were allowed to choose one of the four media above and apply what they have learned about art to their chosen discipline.

Landgent Mall became the place for this innovative project. Students have been interested in a variety of different styles of graffiti. bcis-graffiti-5s

They have been inspired by a multitude of different sources; some are drawn on the strong quick images of the artist Banksy while others take to the larger piece work of artists like Twist. One very common theme among their work is their attraction to the BCIS theme. Many of the students who are working on piece images are using BCIS and its logo as the vehicle for their message.

The management team at Landgent Mall has been fantastic in their accommodation and acceptance of the students coming and they have gone a long way to make this experience enjoyable. .
