bcis_pal_workshop_boys_in_educationThe BCIS Parents as Learners Workshops (PAL) are held monthly at school to give parents valuable insight into a variety of issues that affect both school and family life. Past topics have included “Difficulties faced by non-Western students when entering a Western academic environment,” “Internet Safety” and “Standing out in a competitive admissions process.”

On 28 January, BCIS teacher Dean Eddington hosted the latest workshop entitled “Boys in Education.” The workshop looked at the unique issues boys deal with in their schooling, including the potential challenges they face and possible solutions to assist them in coping more successfully at school, along with strategies for parents to help support their boys in school. Examples of issues and advice included things such as the fact that boys are often more energetic than girls, and so should be kept more physically active in their daily lives. Eddington advised parents to encourage their boys to get involved in extracurricular sports activities like Kung Fu and Tai Chi, which he described as “excellent outlets for energetic boys.”

The PAL Workshops are usually held on the last Tuesday of the month, but dates can vary. They are open to all, and free to attend. If you want to know more about upcoming PAL workshops, you can read more on the school website www.bcis.cn.
