BCIS Kindergarten Science Class Teaches the Effects of Forces

bcis-kg_science-15Students in the Beijing City International School (BCIS) ECC Kindergarten classes have recently been learning about different types of forces in science, such as pushing and pulling forces. To help reinforce their understanding, a local physics and aeronautics expert, Wang Qinian, visited their classes to demonstrate how various forces can be seen even in everyday play activities such as making paper airplanes and flying kites.

Wang is well known for his ability to explain scientific concepts to younger learners, and frequently visits elementary schools in Beijing to demonstrate science through play and other fun activities. He has also published several books on the subject. After a fun learning session with Wang, the children had the chance to try out paper airplanes and kites for themselves, and see the forces they had learned about in action.

Using such fun and engaging methods, it is possible to effectively introduce young learners to key scientific concepts that they will encounter in greater detail later in their school lives. Far from just hearing about these ideas, the children got the opportunity to see these forces in ways that they could easily relate to.
