bcis-spring-in-the-cityOn 9 May, Beijing City International School (BCIS) hosted its annual springtime community event, Spring in the City. Each year a different theme is chosen for the event, and this year’s was ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ in honor of the inclusion of the BCIS Flux Film Festival, which had its own display area in the festival. More than 3,000 people attended the event, where there were also over 70 local vendors offering arts and crafts, gifts, international cuisine and much more.

Two big highlights of the event were the stage show with the Flux Film Awards Ceremony, and the Grade 8 stalls selling the products the students had designed, marketed and created themselves. Students from all school sections took part in the stage show, offering live music and dance to entertain visitors. The Flux Committee also produced a fantastic video/slideshow detailing the winners of each film category, and organized it so that winners could submit a video acceptance speech in advance. This proved very entertaining; with some remarking that the acceptance videos were often as good as the submitted film that won them the award!

Grade 8 raised an amazing 13,000 RMB selling their products, which they had designed and created themselves. Spring in the City and the selling of their products marks the end of their Enterprise unit, in which they had studied in depth many facets of enterprise, including advertising, product design, teamwork etc. All the money raised went to the BCIS ‘Help a Child Smile’ charity.
