bcis-es_author-visit-42On 29 September, Beijing City International School (BCIS) welcomed two very special guests to give presentations on how they create their wonderful creations for children (and adults too!): writer Julia Jarman and illustrator Lynne Chapman, who both hail from England. The pair have collaborated on various books, including the very funny Jungle Grumble, Bears on the Stairs, and Class Two at the Zoo, to name a few. Throughout the whole day, they showed children the process of how they come up with ideas and turn them into eye-catching stories. They also shared some great advice with the students on how to draw characters and write interesting words.

Lynne Chapman held presentations in which she drew what she called “worksheets,” or preliminary designs with students that they could use as references. Julia Jarman read some of her picture books in “a fun-packed session with noisy active bits and quiet interludes.”

Overall, the students were treated to a unique and interactive experience with two very talented and creative minds. Hopefully, they were inspired to create their own stories and illustrations using their imaginations.
