bcis-ecc_library_opening-36On 9 October, the Beijing City International School ECC Library hosted a very special event celebrating its grand opening. While the library has already been in use since the start of the semester, the day marked the unveiling of two important book collections, which have made the library truly complete – the Mother Tongue Collection and the Founding Families Collection. In the afternoon, parents gathered at the special storytelling area next to the library for a brief information session on BCIS libraries, their function within the school and how they work across the two campuses. After that, the new collections were unveiled.

The Mother Tongue Collection widens the variety of languages on offer in ECC Library books, and reflects the great diversity of the school community. The Founding Families Collection is made up of books donated by families whose children make up the student body of the ECC’s first year. It was truly a wonderful celebration of reading at the ECC. Throughout the day, the children were treated to guest storytellers visiting their classrooms to share their love of great stories, and to inspire these youngest learners to foster a lifelong love of books.

According to ECC Librarian Suzanne McKemey, the ECC Library is home to an impressive collection of around 4,000 books, and that is set to grow and grow as more volumes are added to the Mother Tongue Collection and the Founding Families Collection.
