3e International School elementary students attended the BJU (Beijing United Family Hospital & Clinics) Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 9th and were proud to perform on the same stage as children from Shepherd’s Field Children’s Village. The 3e children sang and played the recorder for the gathering crowds of parents, patients and families, before the Christmas tree lights were switched on and the lobby filled with seasonal cheer.

The Beijing United Family Hospital tree lighting event is the beginning of the hospital’s seasonal charity drive for the United Foundation for Children’s Health (UFCH). 3e children and families continue to contribute to the supplies drive that UFCH holds to help orphans and underprivileged children receive some warmth and love in winter.

November and December saw the 3e Parent Council, students and families fundraise for Roundabout, The New Life Centre and collect for UFCH. 10,700 RMB was raised for Roundabout during literacy week, and more than 7500 RMB was raised during a 3-day sale of greetings cards, CDs and baked goods in the lobby of 3e International thanks to the vibrant and supportive community. Donating items of clothing that they have grown out of or toys that they no longer play with to UFCH or Roundabout really helps children to develop empathy, to understand how they can help those in need and to cherish the warmth, comfort and love that they are so lucky to have in their own homes. Fundraising will always be an important part of 3e.
