bcis-xmas-bazaarOn 30 November, the Migrant Children’s Foundation (MCF) and Beijing City International School (BCIS) co-organized the 2013 Christmas Bazaar on campus. There were more than 60 Christmas shopping stalls offering a huge range of food, drink and handicrafts, and an additional eight student-led stalls.

In the Elementary School Atrium, a stage area was set up featuring a full program of live music and dance performances from BCIS students. The visiting migrant children also performed the song Winter Wonderland, which they have rehearsed for four months. Their enthusiasm and spirit struck a cord with the crowd, who offered rapturous applause for their singing. Grade 4 student Alice Du was at the event with her family, and also sang Christmases When You Were Mine on stage. When asked about the Bazaar, she said, “It has been a really fun day, and I was very excited to sing on stage for everybody. I also think it’s great we’ve done all this to help others.”

A total of RMB 27,000 was raised for the MCF. The Director of MCF Beijing, Helen Boyle, announced that the money collected has already been used to get 50 migrant children their health check-ups in Beijing.
