ycis-news-global-child-dayIn May, Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai) celebrated its 10th annual Global Child Day at the school’s Regency Park Campus. During the event, families came together for a fantastic celebration of cultures from around the world. The fun day, planned by the Parent Organization Pudong (POP), gathered around 1,000 visitors, including YCIS families and friends.

The event kicked off with a multicultural parade, led by the Co-Principals from the YCIS Regency Park and Century Park Campuses. At the conclusion of the parade, guests were invited to visit the various booths that represented a wide-range of countries and offered a series of games and activities for guests to enjoy. Throughout the day, the attendees enjoyed a variety of student and parent performances, including the Primary choir from the Regency Park Campus and Secondary choir from the Century Park Campus. Guests were also treated to a large selection of delicious international cuisine prepared by YCIS parents themselves.

In response to the recent earthquakes in Nepal, and in alignment with the YCIS motto that includes aligning with “Love and Charity,” the Secondary Student Council set up a booth to receive donations for Habitat for Humanity Nepal. Year 10 Geography students at the Century Park Campus had previously conducted research and provided information for the booth in order to educate visitors about the effects of the earthquake, and the needs of the people in the region. In total, the students raised more than RMB 5,000 at the event.

Events like Global Child Day are successful due to the commitment of the entire YCIS community, especially the school’s dedicated parent community.
